Leave Goals 2019

By In Travel

We’re all back to the grind and new year’s resolutions have been made, now plan your leave. Leave is scarce and even if you have some days saved up, you are probably too busy to take it. We know the struggles of wanting to travel the world on 15 days leave a year and this is how we’d spend it.

March –  Human rights day

As the 21st is a holiday and a Thursday, take Friday 22 March off and you have a 4 day weekend. This is great for getting things done at home or going away for a quick weekend close to home. We suggest Magaliesburg or Bela-Bela as it is close to Pretoria and have a range of great accommodation options. We have stayed in Ivy Moon and Valley View Villa close to Bela-Bela in the past and they are power.

If you have a little more leave, take the rest of the week as well – so 4 days’ leave for 9 days off. India is great this time of year as the weather gets warmer after the winter, but is pleasant before the very hot summer months start. If in doubt have a look at our reasons to visit India.

April – Easter

You can really score in April with leave as there are a few public holidays. 19 April is Good Friday and Monday 22 April is Family day, thus take the 4 days before 19 April or after 22 April for a whole 10 days off.

Alternatively if you have lots of leave, take 8 days, 4 in the last week of April and 4 in the first week of May as 1 May is also a holiday. This will give you 17 days to spend however you wish.

Vietnam would be a smart move as it is one of the best times to visit, the weather is warm, but not too humid and rainfall is at its lowest. Also a great destination for those on a budget.

April is cherry blossom season in most major cities of Japan thus a good excuse to visit and one on our bucket list.

June – Youth day long weekend

Youth day is on the 16th which falls on a Sunday and is observed on Monday 17 June. Head to Kruger National Park, Durban or Mozambique if you would like to go away over the long weekend and are looking for warmer weather.

If you long for cold days in front of a fireplace why not opt for Drakensberg, Dullstroom or Wakkerstroom.

August – Women’s day

How about treating the woman in your life with a nice long weekend away as the 9th is a Friday. A great option is also to take 4 days from 5-8 August for 9 days of holiday. We think it’s perfect for an island holiday like Zanzibar. Go for 7 or 4 nights with packages as low as R9000 per person including flights, transfers and meals. Mauritius is also a good and very popular option especially if you have kids, read about our Mauritius experience here. We all need a bit of relaxation this time of the year.

September – Heritage day

The 24th is on a Tuesday therefor definitely take the Monday off for a 4 day weekend. We suggest also taking the rest of the week thus 4 days’ leave = 9 days holiday. Since it’s shoulder season in Europe and most of the masses of tourists have left, why not make your way over. Hotel prices are also down considerably which is a bonus for our poor Rand. Barcelona would be perfect for this time and another destination we want to tick this year.

We really hope this helps you plan ahead, we always do this at the beginning of the year to keep us going and excited for what is coming up. Please share with us which destinations or bucket list trips you are planning to tick off this year – we would love to hear from you!

If you subscribe to our newsletter, we’ll send you ‘n handy calendar with the dates all marked up.
